Above is a sculpture of the molecular structure of apatite. Similar to the depiction of apatite, the colors represent a particular element. Purple is phosphorous, oxygen is pink, calcium is blue, and fluorine, chlorine, or hydroxide is red.
As shown, apatite molecules are chains of phosphate compounds connected by calcium atoms. On one end, there is a space for either fluorine, chlorine, or hydroxide.
